Central Reykjavik, Alþingi and Tjörnin lake

Here are a few pictures of central Reykjavik around the harbor. Near the harbor is lake Tjörnin, which is full of birds. Near lake Tjörnin is the Icelandic Parliament building, the Alþingi. Reykjavik's Ráðhús (city hall) is on the lake itself.

Geysir, Gullfoss Waterfall and Kerið Crater

Today I took a trip outside of Reykjavík to see Geysir, Gullfoss and Kerið. Kerið is a volcanic crater between Reykjavík and the Þingvellir. The Gullfoss is a waterfall at the base of the highlands. Pictures are below:

Reykjavik from Hallgrimskirkja and Laugavegur

I went up into the tower of Hallgrimskirkja today. Below are some pictures of Reykjavik from the tower. There are also a few from Laugavegur, the main commercial street in central Reykjavik.

Hallgrímskirkja and Faxaflói Bay at Midnight

These pictures were taken around midnight in Reykjavik. It was pretty light out until about one in the morning. Later in the summer the sun doesn't set at all.

Reykjavik and Kronur

Below are a few pictures I took this afternoon after walking around the center of Reykjavik. I visited an atm and got some Kronur then made my way to a deli and got a couple sandwiches. One was polarbrauð with pestó, kjuklíng and tómat. Which was a chicken and egg pita sandwich with pesto and tomato. The other sandwich was roastbeef, rauðlauk and salat; a roast beef, bacon and lettuce sandwich.

There is a TV in the hotel room, it has several BBC, ITV and CNN International channels. All in English, only one has subtitles. There is only one actual Icelandic channel and it didn't seem to start broadcasting until about 5pm.

Arrival in Iceland

I arrived in Iceland this morning. My Icelandair flight landed at Keflavík Airport which is on a flat peninsula, the road to Reykjavík goes through a rocky black-volcanic plain covered in tan and brown lichen. Below are a couple quick pictures. More to come after I wake up...
