Gstadt, a small village on the Chiemsee where we stayed


Gästehaus Heistracher, our hotel, it was more of a Bed and Breakfast style place than a hotel. It was about 100ft or so away from the lakefront.

Fraueninsel, a small island in the middle of the Chiemsee.

There is a village, a monastary and a couple cafes on the island. There were no paved roads or cars

Herreninsel is the largest island in the Chiemsee. There is only a large palace complex on the island, it is in the middle of a forrest that covers the entire island

The main entrance to the cathedral, the three dates over the door are the dates of the (re)construction of the cathedral. The first church on the site was built in 774, the cathedral as it is today was built in 1628 and it was reconstructed after the war in 1959.
