Homemade Turkey Pita Burgers and Italian Bread from Scratch
This weekend we made pitas and a loaf of Italian bread from scratch. To go with the pita bread we cooked up some turkey burgers
with all of the usual gyro fixing.

We started the day by making a loaf of Italian bread because it only takes about 45 minutes to make from scratch.
The recipe for Italian bread is pretty simple, it's just water, salt, yeast, sugar and olive oil. After mixing everything together, the bread only needs about 30 minutes to rise and then 15-20 minutes to cook.
We prepared the pita bread for dinner. The dough took a little longer to prepare and needed to sit for three hours to rise properly.
Depending on how much air was left in the dough, some of the pitas came out as pockets while others were flat.
The turkey burger patties were prepared like gyro meat with paprika, onions and pepper. The tzatziki sauce was made from cucumber, lemon juice, garlic, salt, pepper and Greek style yogurt.
