We got so much done on a first day in Munich that we decided to take a day trip to Passau and do a little exploring.

Passau is a city in eastern Bavaria, on the border with Austria. Passau sits at the confluence of three rivers, the Inn, the Danube and the Ilz. The river on the far left is the Inn, the river in the middle is the Danube and the small river on the right is the Ilz.

The south bank of the Inn river is part of Austria.

The southeastern tip of the city, where the Inn flows into the Danube, is a civic park with a walking path along the river lined with shade trees.

Between the Danube (Donau in German) and the Ilz is the Oberhaus, a fortress built on the bluffs over Passau.

On the side of the City Hall in Passau there is a Wasserstand high water mark list. The highest mark, from August 15th, 1501, is about 25 feet above the current river level.

The napkins at the Greek restaurant had common Greek phrases translated into German.

After a late lunch in Passau we decided to catch the train back to Munich.

Later in the evening we made our way back to Marienplatz in Munich for a snack.
