We spent a long weekend in Saint Louis recently. Here are some pictures from our trip which began with lunch at the Schlafly Tap Room.

Schlafly is a smallish brewery in Saint Louis with two brew pubs. Their original location is the Tap Room, which is where they serve hearty bar food and single batch one-off craft beers. Schlafly's newest location is the Bottleworks, where the bulk of their bottling is done (as the name would imply), it's also a more organic style restaurant.

Schlafly beers, from left to right: Hefeweizen, No. 15 and Pêche.

Tap room beer bread. This appetizer bread is made with pale ale beer and is very dense. The bread is a little dry but sweet and it's served with cheddar butter and bleu cream cheese.

Beer bread with cheddar butter spread. This was delicious.

My main course was the "Pound of Reuben" which was just that... a 1 lbs. Reuben sandwich. I only managed to finish half of this sandwich but it was really good. The side dish is a vinegar slaw that went well with the corned beef.

This was the highlight of the Tap Room for me, the Schlafly Export IPA straight from the cask. India Pale Ales aren't my favorite type of beer but I really enjoyed this one. It wasn't overloaded with hops and had a lot of malt flavor.
